You really can’t get more action than you get with shooting games. Whether they’re third person shooters, first person shooters, or somewhere between, you’re usually in for tons of bullets, explosions, and mayhem. It’s been one of the more difficult genres to get going on mobile since shooting games depend so heavily on precision. That’s difficult to do on a touch screen. Additionally, we have a separate list that is all FPS (first person shooter) games and that’s linked just below. This list has first and third person shooters with a variety of different mechanics so it might be a truer list of the best shooting games for Android. LOOKING FOR FPS GAMES AND MORE ACTION? 10 best FPS games for Android
Price: Free with in-app purchases DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Critical Ops is one of the more popular shooting games out right now. It features decent graphics, online multiplayer, tons of various weapons to pick up, and weapon skins to add a bit of customization. The control mechanics are fairly typical for a first person shooter. There is always a learning curve when you play a shooter on a touch screen. Even so, it shouldn’t take long to figure everything out. The developers are quite active with this project so it gets frequent updates and improvements. We really like it.
Dead Effect 2
Price: Free with in-app purchases DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Dead Effect 2 is a sci-fi shooter. It’s the spiritual successor to Dead Effect, one of the first competently done shooting games on mobile. It features fantastic graphics, tons of guns to collect and upgrade, tons of bad guys, a 20 hour single player campaign (along with side quests), and RPG-style character development. It’s one of the deeper shooters available right now and it’s great for those who want something more than just a shooting game. It also has extra support for Nvidia Shield devices should you have one.
Deer Hunter Classic
Price: Free with in-app purchases DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Deer Hunter Classic is not the Deer Hunter game you grew up enjoying. However, it is one of the more competently done shooting games on mobile. Like its namesake implies, you’ll be out hunting various types of game. It boasts over 100 species of animals to hunt, Google Play Games leaderboards and achievements, and even global coop challenges that everyone can participate in. It’s a freemium game, so the Classic part of the name is a tad bogus. The actual game play mechanics are on point, though.
Price: Freemium DOWNLOAD FROM EPIC GAMES Fortnite is one of the newer shooting games on Android. You’ve no doubt heard of it before. You drop from the sky, craft and find various items, kill all of your opponents, and become the last one standing to win the round. It has a massive following. The game mechanics are a little clunky, but that’s only because the game is still so new. We expect it to get better over time. You can also sync your account with other versions of the game to keep stuff like skins and other unlockable content. We like that a lot. You have to download and install this one from Epic Games directly because they opted to not add it to the Play Store. The link is above.
Gunstar Heroes Classic
Price: Free / $1.99 DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Gunstar Heroes Classic is a mobile port of the popular SEGA Genesis shooter from 1993. It’s part of SEGA’s acclaimed SEGA Forever series. It includes the entire original game with slightly sharper graphics and touch controls. Some other features include local and cross-platform multiplayer, leaderboards, HID controller support, and more. The base game is the complete title with advertising. A single $1.99 purchase removes ads. We applaud SEGA for bringing old classics back and this is a reasonably good arcade shooter. It’s not the longest game ever, but the leaderboards feature give it a little bit of replay value.

Price: $0.99 with in-app purchases DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Hitman: Sniper is a shooting game out from Square Enix. It focuses more on patience rather than all out excitement. You’ll play as a sniper perched out of site. Your job is to eliminate your targets without raising the alarm. There are a variety of ways to accomplish each mission and there are 150 missions to play through. It also features leaderboards, unlockable sniper rifles, and hidden Easter eggs. The game is among the best stealth shooting games out there. It’s a pay-once game, but you can pay for upgrades to help yourself along if you choose.
Into the Dead 2
Price: Free with in-app purchases DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Into the Dead 2 is a fun shooter hybrid. The game also includes infinite runner style mechanics. You basically run through a giant horde of zombies forever. Survival is the goal. Some of the game features include decent graphics, a variety of weapons, a dog companion, some tower defense mechanics, and multiple endings. This is definitely something a little bit different in the shooter space. However, it’s a surprisingly deep game considering that it’s freemium.
Price: Free with in-app purchases / Varies DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY MADFINGER Games is one of the best developers for shooting games. They have a good collection of excellent games, including the Shadowgun series, Unkilled, Dead Trigger 1 and 2, and others. Unkilled and Dead Trigger are zombie shooters. You kill tons of zombies, zombie bosses, and collect various weapons. The graphics are also fantastic. Shadowgun is more of a classic shooter with a campaign, online multiplayer, and other features. Some of the games are free, others are freemium, and some still are pay-once experiences. You really can’t go wrong with any of them. Shadowgun Legends is the latest release from this developer.
Price: $3.99 DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Meganoid (2017) is an action platformer with shooting elements. The game features randomly generated levels so that every play through is mostly different. It also has consumables, alternate routes, and other mechanics to keep things fresh. There is even a function where you can alter parts of the actual level, including things like weapon mechanics. That adds a weirdly fun customization element to the game. It’s quite different and unique from other shooting games, but it packs enough of the classic elements to feel familiar. The retro graphics help with that a lot as well. The game runs for $3.99 with no in-app purchases.
Modern Combat 5
Price: Free with in-app purchases DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Modern Combat 5 is among the most popular shooting games on mobile. It was originally a pay-once game until Gameloft turned it into a freemium game a while back. It has a large following, decent graphics, and there is a ton of game here for you to play. There is the usual campaign mode along with a popular, but still very competitive multiplayer mode. You can choose between one of six classes to play, each with their own perks and advantages. It’s about as close to a mainstream shooter as you can get on mobile, but it’s still an above average experience. Modern Combat Versus is also out. However, Blackout is still the better game for now.

Price: Free / Up to $4.99 DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Morphite is one of the newer shooting games. It was also one of the best games of 2017. It features decent graphics, vast exploration, and various missions. The game is a little bit like a mobile version of No Man’s Sky. The planets are randomly generated. Thus, no two worlds are the same. The free version of Morphite gives you two story missions and unlimited exploring. The full game runs for up to $4.99. It’s a rare pay-once game in a field of freemium titles. Thankfully, it’s also pretty good.
Price: Free with in-app purchases DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY The NOVA titles are some of the most successful shooting games out there. NOVA Legacy is the latest title in the series. Unlike Modern Combat, this one has a more sci-fi focused theme. It’s been called the Halo to Modern Combat’s Call of Duty. It features good graphics, online multiplayer, and a campaign mode for solo play. There are also special events, crafting mechanics, and other things to help expand the game play. It’s a freemium game and that means there are some parts of the game that are frustrating. Other than that, there is a lot to love about this title.
PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite
Price: Freemium DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY PUBG Mobile is another battle royale shooter and the first truly popular one on mobile. You drop onto an island from a plane. From there, you grab weapons, equipment, and vehicles. The goal is to be the last person standing at the end of the match. The regular version is a 100 person free for all while the Lite version scales that back to 50 to work better on lower end devices. It’s a much drier experience than Fortnite because of Fortnite’s crafting system. However, some people prefer a slightly more realistic experience over the more arcade experience of Fortnite. You really can’t go wrong either way except PUBG is available on Google Play and Fortnite is not.
Sky Force Reloaded
Price: Free with in-app purchases DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Sky Force Reloaded is one of the best top-down shooters on all of mobile. Like most games in the genre, you pilot an aircraft and you must muscle your way through a bunch of bad guys. The game also includes upgradeable weapons and armor, in-level objectives, and more. The graphics are surprisingly excellent and the mechanics are simple to master. There are also buff cards and other things to help boost you chances of success as well as your score. It’s a lot of fun and there really isn’t a whole lot wrong with it.
The Sun: Origin
Price: $1.99 with in-app purchases DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY The Sun: Origin is another newer shooter from 2017. It takes place in a dystopian future. The world is all messed up and everything is run by warlords. The game features a campaign, some survival elements, and plenty of shoot-em-up action. The graphics aren’t half bad either. It could use gamepad controller support and the on-screen controls take a bit to get used to. However, it’s otherwise a solid shooter. It runs for $1.99 with additional (optional) in-app purchases.
